Where It All Comes Together: Private Training at Craney Hill Kennel

Three Days of Private Training at Craney Hill Kennel

Private training has a way of showing you exactly where you are.

Sometimes the progress is obvious. Sometimes a problem shows up that sends you right back to the yard. And sometimes, almost without realizing it, all those separate lessons begin to connect.

Pat and Jeff recently spent three days at Craney Hill working Simon, Roz and young Capri.

Three very different dogs. Three different levels of training. And plenty of opportunities to learn.

The days included stick work, challenging cover, bumper retrieves, water work and field elasticity—where the obedience, handling, relationship and field work begin to come together.

But this weekend was about more than the drills.

It was about learning to read the dog in front of you, recognizing when something needs to be broken down, and understanding that progress does not always happen all at once.

Pat shares the experience in her own words below.

“You are learning how to handle the dog standing in front of you.”

One of the things we value most about these private training days is the opportunity to work with the handlers as much as the dogs.

A young puppy may need one approach. An experienced dog may need something completely different. What worked yesterday may need to be adjusted today.

That is training.

Learning the dog. Building the relationship. Improving your timing. Asking questions.

Going back and clarifying something when it is not quite right.

Then taking those pieces back into the field and seeing what holds together.

We appreciate Pat and Jeff continuing to make the trip, put in the work and trust the process with their dogs.

There is always another lesson waiting.
